I know I'm missing some things...
I know I'm missing some things...
I decided to try Bountiful Baskets. It is a food co-op where you pay a one-time fee of $3, a processing fee of $1.50 and a basket cost of $15.oo for a mix of fresh fruits and vegetables. I love having fruits around the house, but I'm always afraid to buy it because I worry about it not getting used before it goes bad. And the pickup wasn't even terrible. We had a 7am pickup time about 5 minutes from home, and even though we ended up waiting in line for about half an hour, it was better than wandering a grocery store, and the other participants were all saying "this is the longest I've ever had to wait, usually it's in and out."
This weeks $16.50 haul:
Fuji apples, bananas, plums, pineapple, cantaloupe, blue berries, romaine lettuce, peppers, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery and spinach
I probably will not use the romaine lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes or spinach, but I can give it away to friends. The apples are delicious, as was the pineapple. I actually registered for the basket mostly for myself, but I have been surprised how much Royce has liked it. Our friends gave us a head of iceberg lettuce from their last basket, and he chopped it up for a salad last night, along with one of the cucumbers and some carrots we had. Then, he comes wandering out of the kitchen with an apple sliced up for us to share. I think it will be a pretty neat deal. I am registering for another basket today. Maybe I will even look into some new recipes.
