Date Night
Royce and I had a date night the other night. It was nice. It was actually a car club activity, so we weren't alone, but Grandma and Grandpa kept the kiddo late so that we could go to a play and just enjoy each other. First of all, it was a lot of fun because we were watching an old friend on stage and it brought back some memories of good times for me at least. The play itself was cute and funny and kept us laughing. And just having Royce to myself and not worrying about Hudson was great. The whole ride home I found myself wanting to hold his hand, kiss his cheek and just be near him. We even had lots to talk about, from work and dreams to our favorite thing, of course, Hudson. You forget sometimes how important it is to have these date nights. And they don't have to be "alone" time- most of our dates weren't "alone" even when it was just the two of us! I love my little guy, but I haven't forgotten the big guy in my life who makes it all possible. I love you, Royce Beck. Thanks for a great night, and a great life. xoxo

Catching up
What's happening with the Becks, you ask? Not a whole lot exactly, just staying busy. Ya know, growin' a baby and whatnot.
We are 85% sure that baby Maserati is actually baby Bentley! How exciting, a baby girl to balance our already perfect little family!! We have decided on a middle name- Bentley Louise, after Grandma Weezie. We could have gone with Bentley Arlene, except then we'd have to do Bentley Arlene-Gallo; after an Arlene we like and we knows likes us, haha! Grandma Teresa knows how loved she is, she doesn't need a middle name honor, plus it just doesn't sound as good.
I am feeling her little movements and loving it! Sometimes, it's just the rapid beating of her tiny heart that I can feel, and it just amazes me. A second pregnancy (or third, fourth, fifth, etc) isn't as miraculous to anyone else, but to me, it truly is. I am creating life again. I did this. My body is changing again for the love of being a mommy. My body has not been mine for almost 4 years, since we started trying, then through nursing, then trying again, and now as a home to my new little one. My body has stretched and wrinkled and stretched again. I have felt beautiful, secure, ugly, fat and lifeless. I have gone through at least 3 wardrobes, clinging to favorites, praying for them to fit again. But through it all, my husband loves me and reminds me of my beauty. And in the end, I remember that it is 100% worth it and more.
Hudson is my true joy. I gripe about Royce not helping enough, but when he tries, I honestly do make it harder because I want to be there too, making sure it is done right. And my mere presence makes Hudson cling to me and want only "mommy." When other people wander off with him to play, my eyes are constantly glancing their way to make sure he is safe and having fun. When he is out of sight, I fret. After work, I pine for bedtime after several hours of being the playgym for him and cleaning up after him, but as soon as his eyes close, I start to miss him.
Royce and I need some grown up time together, and I am excited because I know we have a "grown-up" cruise coming up and we will need a sitter, but it is so hard for me to spend any of my "not-work" time without Hudson. Royce's boss has teased him with a weekend get-away for his loyalty to the company, and I am psyched at the thought. I wonder what a weekend, hell, even a night away from my little boy would be like. I know we need to do it, especially before baby comes, and I am actually excited. But, of course, now bossman hasn't said anything else about it. It'll be just my luck that he forgets about it until I am only able to barely waddle and don't want to explore.
We also have the helicopter ride that we won at a car show last year- Royce almost had me convinced to go last fall. But now that I am preggers, I don't want to. But it expires this fall. I hope Royce gets to use it. I don't know who he will take with him though. His dad wasn't interested and all of our friends are quite a bit older than us. Other than my sagging/stretching body, nothing else has changed about us. We go where we used to go, do what we used to do as a married, childless couple, but now we pack a baby and about 3 bags. But we go. And for the most part, we really are the same as we've always been.
I am starting individual classes next week. I had hoped to do a Masters in Counseling/Mental Health, but was told that I could not because I already have a Masters in Counseling. So, then I hoped to do a Masters of Arts in Education, but was told I could not because I am already a licensed educator. So now I can only do individual classes. Oh well. A huge part of me is hugely annoyed that I am being limited, a smaller part feels like I'm almost wasting time with just individual classes, but the the rational part of me realizes I have to do what I can- I need to take classes to earn points towards my licensure, plus this way I am in no way obligated to finish a degree program, if a job comes available, I will take it and walk away from UOP without hesitation.
Well, after baby comes anyways. As for now, I have stopped applying. Besides the fact that no one is going to hire me after I waddle in to an interview, but it's also unfair to the employer, co-workers and especially the students if I were to find a job and take maternity. And I could not be the best momma and teacher that I want to be if I were trying to do them together at that crazy transition time. Royce is a little annoyed that I've stopped applying, says I should at least try, but I know myself better and know that I deserve better than what that would do to me. I don't want to worry about insurance and money and students and making an impression at a new job when I should be worrying about baby and Hudson and family.
We are right in the middle of the crazy car show season. If at all possible, we are deeper into it than ever, with Royce being president of Wasatch Rods & Customs and me being historian again. I truly do enjoy it and know that I would be positively bored without it, but I sometimes wish Royce knew how to slow down a little. Eh, who am I kidding? That's the Royce I fell in love with, I wouldn't want him to change.
Well, I guess that's a pretty good summary of what we are doing. Same old, same old, and loving it.
