Week Six

How I am feeling:
  • Still just giddy to be a mommy-to-be!
  • Exhausted!! Going to bed earlier and taking mid-day naps
  • Breast are still tender
  • Some food aversions- they sound good, until I prepare it or see it, then not so much... better than morning sickness though, so I'll take it!
  • SO EXCITED TO HEAR BABY'S HEARTBEAT THIS WEEK!!!!

Progress on the Bike!

My first non-baby post since I found out!

My bicycle is coming along nicely. We got the fenders back from the powder coater yesterday. They turned out okay, but some of the dents are still visible because the supposedly-powder-safe bond-o didn't work. I think, though, that once the pinstriping is done it will totally distract from any infractions.

Our plans for the weekend include getting the last pieces (seat, chain, bolts and connectors) and connecting them all together so we can get it into Bruno next week. Yay!!!

Eager for Unsolicited advice!

So, I got into work today and did my normal blog-stalking and email checking. I had an email from an old co-worker and good friend with the subject "From the Queen of unsolicited advice :)" Knowing this gal, and her personal experiences, I thought she was kindly going to tell me the realities of life, where things don't always go as perfectly as planned and that I was being preemptive to shout my news to the world. I almost didn't open it right away. But I did. And I was so far from the truth. Instead, she was just jumping to give me a head start on all the newest technologies in mommyhood. With a 4-page email!! She had advice about what to buy right away, what to not waste my money on, where to get good deals, etc. etc. I have had a smile on my face all morning! Such great advice, given with such enthusiasm and genuine joy for me. And so nicely organized. Wow. There was also an attachment, where she had planned out clothing sizes for the next 2 years according to season, so one wouldn't purchase an adorable Santa suit in a size that would only fit in the summer months. Too funny!! But also very helpful, really. I can just imagine her giving this chart to everyone she invited to her baby showers! Hilarious. But seriously, I'm going to use it for myself, just so that I know what I can and shouldn't buy. Her baby was born a month after Bugatti is due, so I really don't have to change much at all. So, although it was unsolicited, and honestly kind of feared, from now on, I have eager ears for mommy advice!

240 Days

240 days ago was Tuesday, June 1st. It was a club meeting day. We were preparing for a busy car show weekend, with 25th Street and MWSN.

It really wasn't that long ago... in a mere 240 days, I will be a mommy.

Heart Beat

This time next week, we will be listening to Bugatti's heart beat! So excited!!!

Update: We got it!! And it is AWESOME. Clean, sturdy, safe, durable.

Announcing!

So, the first to know was, of course, Royce. Then our friends Alex and Kyle. During the week, I just had to tell people, I was bursting! On Tuesday, I excitedly told my mentor, Katrina, and my friend Mui, who was excited to pass it along to the rest of our teacher-peeps. Wednesday, I told a co-worker, Annette, who told me that she had wondered because I was practically glowing. It was also my class night, and I did so well through class to not let on, but after class, when it was just us girls, I couldn't hold it back! So, Lori, Laura, Jan, Karen and Jodi now knew. And they were all so excited for me! Thursday night, I could finally tell my best friends at work, Jenni and Linda. Friday, I told another co-worker, Shanda.

On Friday, we were anxious to tell my parents!! I had bought these adorable books a long time ago and written a heartfelt message in them for all of our folks.

Royce had also had me print off a listing for a '32 Ford to give to my dad. We wanted to be nonchalant about asking them to dinner, then we would wait until dinner was over. And I guess it worked with Mom, she was clueless, expecting that we wouldn't know anything until Saturday. Dad had his suspicions, but he didn't let on, and when I asked AJ and he declined because of cost and I offered to pay, he nearly said, and I knew he nearly said "Wow, you must really want me to be there for some reason..." but instead he just agreed. As we walked into Iggy's, some friends, Joe & Jenny, were sitting at a booth. We visited and they started talking about Jenny's retirement, and mom said "I'll retire as soon as Tracy has a baby." and they started asking me "Oh! Have you been thinking about it?" and I nonchalantly said "Yeah, we've been trying..." Later, Dad said he figured that if that was why we were here, that is when I would have said something. As we sat down at the table, we chatted about everything and nothing. Then we realized that some more friends were behind us, Blake's family. Mom got into a conversation with them about Blake's pregnant wife. When she turned back to the table, I just couldn't help it... even though I knew Royce would be bugged that I didn't wait until after dinner. "So, Blake's due in March, right?... 'Cuz we're due in September." It was priceless. Dad and AJ got it right away, but I watched mom as she counted in her head to see if that would be right. When I said "Yup. We're gonna have a baby." She got teary-eyed and just couldn't stop smiling. Dad too. After some hugs and congratulations, mom turned to Blake's family and said "Me too! Grandma in September!!!" then looked to me and asked, "Can I go tell Joe & Jenny?!?" and almost before I even responded, she was climbing over my dad and the table, running to their booth and just sobbing to them. So, I guess she really wasn't all that excited... ;) It was a great night! After dinner, we stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Perkins' house to tell them.

At Iggy's, after the announcement.

On Saturday morning, Royce went and worked on my bike at Gary's shop, where he told Gary and Rich. Later we had a car club scrapbooking party. Royce said that we could announce, but that I had to wait for his ok. We got there and as people were arriving, I was whispering in his ear, "Now? Can we do it?!? They need to know!" And he kept saying "Shhh! Not yet!" Finally, I just settled down and started scrapbooking. Finally, he came in, and when everyone (Brockmeiers, Cooks, VanAusdals, Blues, Beardes) was seated and said "So... Tracy wanted to tell ya'll something..." and everyone looked at me expectedly and I said "YUP!! I'm gonna be a mommy!!" I got lots of hugs and congratulations. This kid is gonna be LOVED. and maybe a little spoiled.

After the scrapbook party, we stopped by the hospital to see if we could tell Bob & Weezie. Weezie wasn't there, but Mike E was, so we told them instead. Big old teddy bear Bob started crying and saying "Oh, Grandpa. I like that!" Mike was excited and shared the news with Kylee. We swore them to secrecy from Weezie and rushed up to Roy so we could tell her.

But first we stopped by Royce's dad's house. As we entered the house, Royce said, "I have something for you." and handed him the book. As he was looking at it, I quietly said, "It's for your grandbaby who will be here in September." He gathered us into a hug.

After Bob's, we went to Weezie's, where Royce announced our news. She was excited, but as is typical of Weezie, she bounced from one subject to another, but she always came back to "Oh, I'm so tickled for you guys!"

Saturday was a busy, busy day! And not just for us. Mom, of course, was busy making calls to family.

Luckily, Sunday was quiet. We went over to Kyle and Alex's so Royce could help with the '33. Mat was there too, so we told him. And later in the day, I was playing on Facebook and just couldn't help but IM some of my friends. (Kayie, Elizabeth, Jeni, Josh, Jamie, Soquel).

So, Today is Tuesday and I have told a couple more co-workers and friends. And yesterday, we told a few more club members at board meeting, including Maggie who was absolutely giddy for us, and Royce called his sister and nephew. The word is officially out!

Except for my mother-in-law. We weren't sure what we were going to do about that, but we finally decided to just write a letter. It is so impersonal, especially with what else we had to say, but at least she won't read it on my blog. Now I've just got to drop it off at her house with the book and wait. Wait and see if she decides to do anything about it, or if this will be the last contact we have with her.

Everyone is so genuinely happy for us! But most importantly, we are so very thrilled for ourselves, and for this precious baby. We are gonna be awesome parents. This kid is gonna be LOVED.

Positively awesome news!

So, we got our positive test on Sunday, January 16, around noon. I had wanted to do something cute to tell Royce, I even spent time making a cute little baseball-bat sleeve to put the pee-stick in, but when the moment was here, I just couldn't think. I ran into the living room, practically waving the stick, screaming his name. We hugged, for a long time, and he kept saying "really?!" I was tearing up and shaking. I couldn't stay still. We were getting ready to go to mom's, so Royce finished putting on his shoes and whatnot while I dug around my purse for the camera and got a picture of my "PREGNANT" stick.

Then we went to mom's. But we had already decided that it was hush-hush until we could have it verified by the doctor's blood test. It was so hard!!! Royce and I kept making eyes at each other, winking and smiling, but they never caught on. We went about our day like nothing was happening, while inside my belly there was a blastocyst hard at work and inside my head the voices just wanted to shout "I'm gonna be a mommy!!!"

On Monday, I finally got ahold of our doctor's office and they ordered blood work for me at the hospital. I called one of my closest friends, Alex, to see if she might be able to go with me and told her all about our excitement. She couldn't go with me, but she did offer to help me pass some of the 2 hours that it would take to process, so we met up and wandered the mall. She was genuinely thrilled for me, us. At 1:30 Monday, I got my confirmation, I was indeed pregnant and my hCG levels were high, at 50, for as early as we'd tested. That's good, it means that the baby is implanted and sending out the appropriate hormones. They told me we would do a follow-up blood test on Thursday to make sure that the growth was looking good. If everything was going well, the level should double or triple in those 3 days.

I'm gonna be a mommy!!!

There's so much to say, so much to tell! But the most important is that I'm gonna be a mommy!!! And Royce is gonna be a daddy! And we are just giddy! We know there are risks with announcing it so soon, but we cannot help it! We are shouting from the rooftops!

The next couple of posts will be all about our shouting and who we've told, how we did it, how we're feeling, and what's up next!

<<< See my new little baby ticker... it looks like I'm growing a dinosaur! I don't think so, but we won't know for sure until February 2, when we have our first ultrasound!

Weekend

Had another great weekend!

On Friday, we went to Marc & Ruth's to play cards with them and Kyle & Alex and Mat. Lots of fun!

We woke up early on Saturday to go to breakfast with some cruisers at BurgerStop. Then, it was time for our club activity- bowling, mini-golf and laser tag! Soooo fun!! Royce and I bowled twice. The first time, I got my butt kicked by everyone, (Royce, Neil, Bob & Judy), barely getting a 50. The second time, it was just me and Royce and I kicked his ass, more than doubling my first score! We also played laser tag 3 or 4 times. Always fun... even if I did hover in the middle of the scoreboard each time! We played galactic mini-golf and I honestly don't know the scores. But I bet I lost. I'm good at that! Royce and I even got Judy to jump on the jump-o-lines with us! After all that, several of us went over to Iceberg to get a shake. When we were finally done, Royce and I went home and took a nice nap. Later that night, we went to dinner with Mike E & Kylee at the Old Spaghetti Factory and to the Tavernacle. So much fun!! I worried that Royce wouldn't have fun, we was not at all excited about the bar, but we had a blast! Great people-watching! We even saw a girl fall head-first off the piano! Mike E paid $25 to have them play Squeeze Box. The pianist had never heard or played the song, but he rocked it out of the house after finding it on his computer!!

Sunday was a lazy day. Loved it! Slept in and laid around until our dogs got so bored and just had to go to Grandma's. Also went grocery shopping with my folks. When we got home, mom started dinner and while it cooked, we ran the dogs down to the shop for a bath. All the while, Royce worked diligently on their puzzle. Just a good day.

And I was off on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Royce had to work. I spent most of the day running around, doing errands, but I did get a little bit of cleaning done. Another good day!

Imagination

Where did it go?

I often ask the kids at the school what they like to play with their friends. First of all, they'll usually correct you and say "hang out with" rather than play, and usually the answer is something like this:
  • watch TV
  • play video games
  • listen to music
Occasionally, it might be
  • make a video of us being goofy
  • go to the mall
If you had asked me what my friends and I liked to do when we were kids, it would have been:
  • ride bikes
  • play at the park
  • jump on the trampoline
  • play "house" or "school"
  • make forts or club houses
We did stuff. We imagined stuff. Sure, I had some great props for "school", but even without them, we could have pretended and made anything out of nothing. I didn't realize it then, but now I recognize that my playing was a brain work-out. I had to think. I had to be creative. Or I was actually working out my body. Today's kids turn off their brains to play. There are a few exceptions, of course, but ask the majority and you'll find that imagination and pretend play has disappeared. It breaks my heart!

This book was accidentally delivered to my mentor:
We both read through it and reminisced. The story itself was a little too wordy, but what got me was the pictures. THAT'S WHAT CHILDHOOD IS SUPPOSED TO BE. That's what makes me want to go back to being a kid. I remember playing that way with my cousins, creating forts and playhouses at Grandma Odekirk's. I remember crawling around at the department stores with my brother to collect "keys"- the little white plastic bobby-pin-looking-things that kept clothes folded nicely and pins and keeping score. I remember throwing those items and more "treasures" in Grandma Wilma's dog house for safe-keeping. I remember Grandma Wilma's secret garden. I remember what an accomplishment it was to ride my bike all the way to Harmons or Albertson's. I remember the neighbor kids coming over to roll down the hill, or jump on the trampoline. I remember night games. I even remember playing some kind of "house" game where we were confined to the swings in my yard.

What are these kids going to remember?!?!?

To Coupon, or Not To Coupon, That is the Question

I'm thinking of doing Coupons. But it's intimidating! And a lot of work. I cannot be one of those "crazy coupon ladies," but I could maybe be a half-assed couponer. Maybe. These are some sites I've been referred to that might be helpful:

My Bike!

Another thing of note: My 1965 Schwinn Hollywood Bicycle is in pieces. The frame, fork and chain guard are at the shop, being powder-coated (?) white, white and pink. The fenders are in my living room, almost down to bare steel, being prepared for powder-coating (white). And the new rims are ordered and on their way. When rims get in, we will also get new tires, tubes, a pink chain and look at a new (old, used) seat that is in better condition then mine, and maybe new grips. This free bicycle is gonna run us a couple hundred, but it is gonna be SWEET! Still don't know exactly what I want my pinstriping to be, but I'm pretty convinced that I want black/white/pink checkered-something or other. I think I'll just put that out there and give my pinstriper free-range. He'll do better than anything I could imagine up anyways! We now have a deadline, March 3, for AutoRama, so this baby is gonna be done and driven(ridden) before then.

not my bike, but needed a good pic of the chain guard Lettering for pinstriping, mine is totally faded and away

One Week Down!

Right this moment, little blastocyst Bugatti could be implanting his-or-her-self to my uterine wall...
