Boring you with Board Meeting

Since nothing else of note has happened, I'm gonna bore you with the details of board meeting. As historian for WR&C, I have to attend a board meeting the 4th Tuesday of every month. It's a lot of political nonsense, really. And I am sooooo not a political person! It's neat to be a part of every decision... but it also holds a lot of responsibility. At last night's meeting, we (the board) were accused of mis-counting the ballots in our last Charity vote. In December's general club meeting, we decided which charities we would donate our 2010 car show funds to. Royce and I, along with the club secretary and club VP, counted votes. Our first 3 charities were decided: Ogden Rescue Mission, The Children's Justice Center and some animal adoption or humane society thing. Then we had a 3-way tie for our last charity between ALS of Northern Utah (Lou Gehrig's disease), Shriners and Safe Harbor domestic violence shelter. Had we really wanted to cheat, this is where it would have been done. The four of us could have just said, "Ok... let's just do this one." But no. We explained the situation and had another vote between these three. The winner, by a long shot, was ALS. Then it was Safe Harbor. And trailing with much fewer votes was Shriners. Now, you have to remember, all of these places are worthy charities. And we've helped most of them out in the past. For several years now, Shriners has received our $1,000 each summer. But, to be honest, $1,000 to an organization like Shriners (who spent millions on advertisements last year) is a drop in the hat. But give $1,000 to ALS or Ogden Rescue Mission and they truly need it and apprecciate it. But that's just my opinion... back to the situation at hand. We have a family who has been helped immensely by Shriners (because it is a fabulous organization) and they were so offended that the club voted not to support them. The family raised a fit after the meeting, offering to count votes from now on. They don't attend half of the activities, rarely help when they do, but now they're ready to step up to the plate. HA! It's offensive, really. They accused us of counting wrong, or of rigging the results. Nonsense. Anyways, needless to say, it was an interesting board meeting.

Tomorrow is Wednesday. I have class on Wednesdays. Really, I should be doing my homework right now. Not writing to myself on this silly blog. I'm a year into my Masters of School Counseling program. I have another year and a half. Hopefully it will go by fast enough. This last year seems to have gone by quick. I remember how hard it was trying to decide between starting my teaching career or continuing my education while I could. I do not regret my decision. The information I am getting from counseling will be so useful in my classroom. Plus it gives me more options if I ever change my mind about teaching. Anyways, tomorrow is our last night of Individual Counseling. It's been a fun class. We've learned more about different counseling methods and theories and I think I'm a little closer to defining my own style. I hate theories. Or, rather, I hate putting a name to theories. I don't care who said it. What I care about is what it is and how it's used. I can explain so many theories and methods... but I still have trouble labelling it. Reality therapy, Behavioral therapy, Cognitive therapy. Well, I am gonna go now. Maybe I'll work on homework. Probably not.

Weekend

Weekends come so slowly, but go so quickly. This weekend should be a pretty quiet one. Tonight, I am going to a Mary Kay seminar with a friend. Just trying to help her earn her car. It will be fun to catch up with her though. Then I'll probably go to some other friends' house to play cards late into the night. We like to play Liverpool Rummy. Then tomorrow we have a celebration with the car club board members of 2009 and 2010. It should be fun. Car club stuff usually is!

We are in Wasatch Rods and Customs. We do a lot of charity things and meet some really neat people. I am club historian, so I take pictures, create a scrapbook and maintain a website: http://wrac2010.shutterfly.com The website will have pictures from local car shows as soon as cruising season starts (April!) Royce is activities director for the club, so he/we get to plan a monthly activity for everyone. This can be anything at all. This month, we went to Sparetime Family Fun Center. Next month, we are going to Hardware Ranch and Rovali's Italian Ristorante.

Anyways, I guess that's about it for big weekend plans. Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

Just Me and My Blog

So, the reason I haven't had a blog before now is simply because I didn't think anyone would want to read about just me and my hubby. It seemed like a "family" thing. I thought this because I am a blog-stalker. I read acquantaince's blogs, old friends' blogs, co-workers' blogs and strangers' blogs. And I keep up to date on them. Some of them are funny, some of them are sad, some of them are just fun to read. But none of them probably realize how often I actually read them. It's sad, really. If I ever run in to any of my old school mates, I'm gonna have to be careful not to ask them how little Debbie's dance recital was, or if hubby Hank's knee is healing, or how the adoption process is going. 'Cuz that would just be creepy. I know it. And yet I do it. And I'm fairly positive that I am not the only one. I haven't "advertised" my blog yet, and may never actually do so. But someone will find it. Someone will read it. And I'm just gonna have to deal with that fact. That's what happens when you use the world wide web for communication.

Anyways, I am starting this blog because we are hoping that soon enough it won't just be just me and my hubby. Soon enough, we are hoping to expand our little family beyond just us, our dogs (Sadie and Rigby) and his show car. Yes, it's part of the family. A baby of sorts. And when that day does come, I want to be able to show off my growing family.

But I am still a little wary about posting such personal information. And yet, I don't want to set it all to passwords. I guess I worry that there are some not-so-innocent blog-stalkers out there. But I want the innocent, curious ones, like myself, to be able to see and know without having to be there or have permission. I know that some of the blogs I follow wouldn't necessarily want me to follow, because I am so far removed from the situation that it seems like I wouldn't care. But I do. I am intrigued reading about the way other people live. And I love the honesty that comes out in a blog. I think people write for themselves, not really for anyone else. They almost forget that someone else is reading it. So, for now, this blog will be a public blog. But if my personal blog-stalking ever seems to take on an intense feel, I may re-think the decision. Enjoy it while you can, you creepy blog-stalker you. And if you know of any other good blogs to read... let me know! ;)

This is us

I really don't know how well this blogging thing is gonna go. But it can't hurt to try, right? So, I guess I'll start with an introduction... I am Tracy. And he is Royce. We've been married for 6 1/2 years. But we've known each other forever. We don't have a cute how-we-met story, but we do have a cute how-we-got-here story.

My mom and his mom have been friends since they were in kindergarten. They stayed friends throughout school, even after they went to different high schools. They were each others' maids of honors, were pregnant together, and raised us together. I remember childhood birthday parties together and family outtings. The Perkins' were always going to dinner with the Becks. And those Beck kids were naughty. They got away with everything! They could run around the Chinese restaurant when we Perkins' had to sit and behave. Not to say that we didn't have fun with the Becks. Royce and I were the older kids, so we liked spying on and recording the younger kids' conversations. And we used to make the funnest haunted houses in our stairwells!

Well, I remember when I decided I "like-liked" Royce. It was at his grandmother's funeral. Morbid, yes. But he looked so cute in a suit and sunglasses! And so my crush started. I would write his name in my notebooks and doodle it in the clay dust in pottery class. But I didn't think anything would come of it.

But then I got a call. Apparently, our parents had made arrangements to go golfing together. And he wanted to make sure I was going... he "didn't want to be stuck with his little sister and her friend." I was happy for the invite, but couldn't see how having me, another girl his sister's age, around would help. I whispered to my mom, "are you guys going golfing? Royce wants me to go." She motioned for me to give her the phone. So I did. "Are you asking my daughter on a date?!" "ummm... I guess so." "Well, it's about damn time!"

From there, we had 2 golfing dates and a movie date with parents. Then several more dates and happy times. And here we are. He's the only guy I've ever really dated. And I'm the only girl he's ever loved. And we're happily living our happily ever after.

Christmas

We had a great Christmas!

We got some really neat, unexpected gifts. And we enjoyed the time we spent with our families.
